Something is Wrong with the Baby:
Prenatal diagnosis, fetal abnormalities, collaborative decision-making, and supportive psychotherapy with Deb Rich, PhD, LP, PMH-C
When parents-to-be receive a poor fetal diagnosis, they are faced with a myriad of difficult decisions complicated by a short timeline for action. This workshop provides an in-depth look at the medical and emotional aspects of decision-making when a baby is diagnosed with a major fetal anomaly. Topics include options for fetal testing, delivering bad news, collaborative decision-making, and the full range of medical options available to parents including medical termination of pregnancy, early delivery, and continuation of pregnancy all within a context of perinatal palliative care. Using lecture, video and case examples, participants will explore how best to support and guide therapy clients along the path of disrupted transition to parenthood. Participants will be supplied with local resources and key pointers on collaborating with medical providers.
This course is open to all practicing therapists and childbirth professionals who have completed at least one training in perinatal loss and newborn death.
