Course Description

Throughout this training, participants will cultivate a neurodiversity-affirming lens and bolster confidence in supporting their neurodivergent (ND) clients. Starting with case conceptualization, the training will emphasize how intersectional oppression, including ableism, heightens client vulnerability to trauma and misdiagnosis. Additionally, participants will gain insights into ND-affirming treatment planning and receive an introduction to best practices for adapting therapeutic interventions for neurodivergent clients.

Facilitated by three neurodivergent clinicians, this training draws from the professional and lived experiences of the presenters, integrating emerging research and best practices. Upon completion of this training, participants will understand key aspects of the neurodiversity-affirming movement and possess actionable methods to integrate foundational principles for affirming care into their clinical settings.

This workshop is based on recordings from a live training held in July, 2024.

Erin Wheeler, LCSW, PMH-C

Instructor

Erin Wheeler, LCSW, PMH-C, is a neurodivergent therapist, parent, and private practice owner based in Chicago. She received her MA in Social Work from the University of Chicago in 2011. After graduating, she counseled individuals struggling with compulsive gambling and trained other therapists nationwide on best practices for treating problem gambling. Erin has been working in the perinatal mental health field since 2015. In 2020 (a month before the pandemic), she opened her private practice, Inner Resource Counseling. She's focused her practice on supporting people with perinatal trauma and helping neurodivergent families flourish in their transition to parenthood. Erin's practice mission has always been to provide a safe and affirming space for her clients to engage with the conflicting parts of themselves. Erin takes great joy in collaborating with other perinatal providers who help individual thrive on their journey to birthgiving and parenthood. Her strong drive to connect with others led Erin to become an EMDRIA-approved Consultant in Training (CIT), and to continue leading trainings. Most recently, Erin co-facilitated a webinar with her mentor, Dr. Mara Tessler Stein, and Dr. Dani Kahn, focused on the perinatal adaptations of Gary Quinn's Self-Care Procedure for Corona Virus (SCP-CP, 2020).

Skylar Ibarra, LCSW, PMH-C

Instructor

Skylar Ibarra, LCSW, PMH-C (she/her) is a therapist in private practice in Brea, California where she provides Neurodiversity Affirming therapy to individuals and couples. Her clinical focuses include perinatal mental health, complex developmental trauma, and OCD. Skylar is an EMDRIA-approved Consultant-in-Training under the mentorship of Dr. Mara Tesler Stein and offers consultation to those seeking Certification or wanting to further explore their clinical practice. She is also a Certified Trauma Resiliency Model Practitioner and Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional. Skylar received her Master of Social Welfare from UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs where she was awarded the prestigious Bohnett Fellowship and earned a Certificate in Global Public Affairs with a concentration in Global Health and Social Services. She pairs her rigorous training with her lived experience as neurodivergent and a perinatal OCD survivor to provide a holistic, person-centered approach when providing therapy, trainings, and consultation. Skylar is passionate about empowering others with the information and resources they need to successfully obtain their goals. She deeply believes that knowledge is meant to be not just shared, but talked through so that it resonates with each individual within their own experience.

Jane Kosloff, LICSW, PMH-C

Instructor

Jane Kosloff, LICSW, PMH-C is a clinical social worker in private practice within the greater Seattle area. Previous to private practice, Jane has experience working in community mental health and federally qualified primary care clinics. While working in primary care, Jane worked as a behavioral health consultant and was the clinical supervisor for the social work team. Jane has worked in private practice since 2018. In her private practice, Jane focuses on supporting clients around perinatal trauma including birth trauma, perinatal OCD, anxiety and provides neurodivergent affirming care. Jane is an EMDR Consultant-In-Training under the mentorship of Dr. Mara Tesler Stein and provides consultation to clinicians who are working towards EMDRIA certification or who want to deepen their EMDR practice. EMDR is Jane’s favorite modality and she continues to be impressed by its power and versatility. Jane considers herself a lifelong learner and is always working to further her knowledge. Whether it be through consultation or teaching, Jane enjoys helping other clinicians dig deep into clinical concepts, examine the whys and nuances behind clinical work, and help clinicians work in a way that is consistent with their strengths and values.

Course evaluations are made available after all live sessions have been completed within the course portal. After completing the evaluation, participants will be able to download their CE certificates. This training offers 4 CE credits.

  • What is your refund policy?

    More than 14 days notice is required for a full refund minus 7% administrative fee. Cancellations made within 14 days of training are eligible for a 50% refund or full transfer to another training within The Touchstone Institute. Only 1 transfer to another training is allowed. If you can not attend the transferred training your fee will be forfeited. No-shows are not eligible for a refund or transfer. Exceptions to this policy are limited to medically documented circumstances or family bereavements. Failure to attend without prior notification (no-shows) will not qualify for a refund.
